Location: Dinosaur Valley State Park, 1629 Park Rd 59, Glen Rose, TX 76043 (between Fort Worth and Austin). Check-in: 3:45 PM on start date; Check-out: 10:45 AM on end date. Sessions typically have three squads of three to four boys each. Campers hike 4-8 miles per day and 35-50 miles total carrying 10-30 lbs; pre-camp heat conditioning (hiking outside in heat 1-2 hours at a time, every couple days, 2-3 weeks before camp) is required. Heat exhaustion is the main risk. Camp mitigates heat by swimming at the river around 2-4pm each day. Campers sleep under the stars and tarps (not in tents). Directed by former U.S. Army infantry officers trained in wilderness first aid; squad instructors are ROTC cadets from Texas universities with background checks. All activities conducted inside Dinosaur Valley State Park in coordination with park safety protocols. Campers cook meals using propane and campfire. Meals provided: breakfast, lunch (military MREs), and dinner; outside snacks not permitted. No phones/screens allowed. Parents should not expect communications during the program; instructors maintain ability to call emergency contacts.
